Echo Show 11 vs Echo Show 10: What Amazon Took Away

The Echo Show 11 is faster, sharper, and smarter than the Echo Show 10. That is the easy part of this comparison. The harder question is the one people actually type into Google: should you buy an Echo Show 11 while you still have the ability to buy an Echo Show 10? I put them side by side on my desk, and two changes jump out that matter more than anything on the spec sheet.

The numbers first

The Show 11's screen is an inch bigger than the Show 10's, and the resolution is higher too. The screen itself is thinner front to back, which makes the whole device feel more modern sitting on a counter. Under the glass there is a dedicated AI chip, and as of today no other device in this category ships with that combination of a dedicated chip and the assistant built in. If you judge purely on hardware freshness, the 11 wins.

Loss number one: the physical camera shutter

On top of the Echo Show 10 there is a physical shutter you slide across the camera. Cover it, look at it, and you know the camera cannot see you. That certainty is the whole point. The Echo Show 11 removed it: the camera can only be turned off in software, through a button press and an on-screen state you have to trust. For a device that often ends up in a kitchen, a living room, or an older parent's home, a cover you can see with your own eyes is worth more than a menu setting. This is the change I hear about most, and it is real.

Loss number two: the swivel

The Show 10's party trick was that it physically rotated to follow you. Cooking with your hands full, the screen turned so the recipe stayed in front of you. The Show 11 cannot physically move at all. It has a software feature where the camera pans digitally to track where you are during calls, but the screen itself stays put. If the motorized base was the reason you loved the Show 10, nothing in the 11 replaces it.

Small changes worth knowing

• The do-not-disturb button and volume controls moved from the top of the device to the side. You will hunt for them the first week.
• The camera pans digitally during video calls, which works, but is not the same as the screen turning toward you.

The clock is ticking on the Show 10

Here is the part that changes the decision: Amazon is discontinuing the Echo Show 10. Once remaining stock sells through, the choice disappears. If a physical shutter and a rotating screen matter to you or to the parent you are buying for, buy the Show 10 now, while you still can.
